Despite spring and warm temperatures shortly before we found surprisingly good conditions on Stubaier Glacier last Sunday. Some snow had fallen on Friday and Saturday. One can definitely feel the vicinity of such a big mountain town as Innsbruck, but if one is motivated to hike a bit and also has some idea where to go, it would be easy to escape the crowds.
I was on Stubaier Glacier only once before, so my aim was mainly to ride a couple of nice lines and scout the area for future projects.
It was good to be up on the mountain with a bit more visibility and together with Mikki, Schöffi and Hampus we did some quite good runs and a lot of little drops.
I guess we were super-lucky with the weather, as exactly the upper third of the resort was above the clouds. We enjoyed stunning views of the surrounding Mountain Tops peering out of the fog.
great pictures
Thanks! It was a great day, and the light was amazing….
Its beautiful!
Thanks! mountains are very beautiful under pretty much all circumstances…but you should really try and see the Alps in high winter. It’s always again amazing. Every season I spend the first couple of days in the mountains just looking and feeling really lucky to be able to be there.
I have seen the Alpes in summer, but now I really want to experience the spectacle in winter!
